Abstract
Abstract The study aimed to evaluate the hypoglycaemic effect of the aqueous extract of Opuntia ficus-indica (prickly pear) stem in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. An experimental, comparative, and longitudinal study was conducted with 64 rats. The results showed that the experimental group with a 90% concentration of prickly pear aqueous extract significantly reduced blood glucose levels compared to the groups with 30% and 60% concentrations, and the control group with glibenclamide. The glucose reduction was statistically significant, concluding that the prickly pear extract has a faster and more effective hypoglycaemic effect than glibenclamide.
