Abstract Mammary neoplasia is common in female dogs, and current therapies are limited and non-selective. This study investigated the extract of Solanum dulcamara L (BIRM) for its antitumour potential. BIRM showed antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic effects on human prostate carcinoma cells and was evaluated for its effect on canine mammary carcinoma cells CF41.Mg. The results indicated that BIRM decreased cell proliferation and clonogenic capacity, induced apoptosis, and significantly reduced cell migration and invasion. Although not selective, BIRM could be a potential therapeutic agent for canine mammary cancer.
