Abstract The research, conducted from November 2015 to April 2016, aimed to determine the antifungal effect of the essential oil of Minthostachys mollis (muña) on Candida albicans strains. The muña was collected in Puno, and the essential oil was obtained in the laboratory of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at UNA – Puno. Sputum samples were taken from tuberculosis patients at the Regional Hospital "Manuel Núñez Butrón". The antifungal effect was evaluated using the Kirby – Bauer method, with different concentrations of the essential oil. The results showed that the concentration of 1ml/250µl (T6) had the largest inhibition zone (29.2 mm), surpassing the positive control (Fluconazole). It was concluded that the essential oil of Minthostachys mollis has a significant antifungal effect on Candida albicans strains.
